Normally, DCSD families who live within one mile of their assigned neighborhood school are not eligible for school bus transportation. This is known as the “walk zone” and reflects both the size of the district and limited transportation resources.

For the 2026–2027 school year, DCSD is making an exception to this policy for families attending Silver Spruce Elementary. The goal is to provide additional transportation options during this transitional year.

On Feb. 18, 2026, families received an email with more details, including instructions to RSVP for bus service by May 1 and a map of the walk zone.
